Set up a code search MCP server in Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and 12 more
Run one install command, open the Finder dashboard and click your harness. Finder writes the MCP config and the prompt/skill files for that tool. The first query asks you to approve the exact project folder; after that, indexing runs in the background.
1. Install
This installs the finding-mcp server and starts it locally. The dashboard opens in your browser.
2. Connect your harness
In the dashboard, pick your tool and click apply. Finder writes two things: the MCP server entry, and the prompt or skill files that teach the agent when to call each tool. Supported harnesses:
| Harness | What gets written |
|---|---|
| Claude Code | .mcp.json + CLAUDE.md + finder-kit skills |
| Codex, Opencode, Pi, Oh My Pi | MCP config + AGENTS.md + skills |
| Gemini CLI | .gemini/settings.json + GEMINI.md + skills |
| Cursor, Kiro, Grok, Antigravity | MCP config + a Finder rules/steering file + skills |
| Roo Code, Cline, Windsurf, VS Code, Zed | MCP config (global or repo, depending on the tool) |
Repo-local or global: you choose whether the config lives in the project or in your user settings.
3. Approve the workspace
Finder never indexes a folder you haven't approved. On the first query the agent calls index-status, sees the workspace is unapproved, and proposes approve-indexing for that exact path — your harness shows its normal confirmation prompt. Home directories and the filesystem root are refused outright.
4. Use it
Ask your agent a question in plain words. Behind the scenes it routes to the narrowest tool:
finder— files, symbols or flows are unknownfile-finder— the file is known, the range isn'tcontext— everything about one known symbolimpact— what a change to a symbol affects
If a query reports a warming index, the agent checks index-status and retries once indexing finishes.
